I am really starting to love teaching group fitness. I have been teaching BodyPump on my own now for over a month, having my own class on Mondays this whole time as well. I am so lucky to have gotten a class right away. Right place, right time I guess. They desperately needed an instructor for the Monday 1030am class and I was just the girl for it. I really like morning classes. Don't get me wrong, I find myself mostly at evening classes, but it's so nice to get the workout out of the way plus the morning crowd is just different. I love them.
I am struggling with Monday though. Technically, I work every 3rd Monday. I have been able to work my schedule around so that I have been able to teach every Monday since I started, but coming up in a couple weeks I will have to sub my class out. Which kind of makes me sad :(. I am really starting to get to know my class and I want to be there for them every time. I will have to figure something out with that whole thing.
I have also been subbing a lot for other instructors. I am taking on 3 classes this week alone. To some of the more experienced instructors, that's nothing. To me, it's a whole lotta something. I start out a little nervous when I sub because there is always someone who asks, "Where's so-and-so?", which makes me feel like they are upset that I am there instead. But then it makes me really want to rock the socks off the class so they love me :).
I have been getting a lot of compliments too. I guess it's hard for me because I have never taken my class as a participant so I have no idea how my class "feels". There are those classes that you love and those that you would rather not go to, and I so badly want to be a class that people rearrange their schedule for or just want to come to. I have had a lot of people in my Monday class tell me how glad they are to have me teaching that class and that they are so excited to have 1030 on Mondays carved out every week for my class (LOVE it). I have people ask me how long I've been teaching and when I tell them only a couple months they about drop dead. Compliment once again. Today, after I subbed I had someone ask me if I taught this time every week because he hasn't come in a long time and he may just start coming every week now. Nope, but come join me at Fishers! I call Matt after every class and gush about how much I love it. One of these days I will make him love it that much too :).
Yes, I definitely mess up sometimes. Today, my class got a couple extra bicep curls in the warm-up, but overall I am doing way better than I thought I'd do for my first couple times. I haven't stopped class and run out crying so I'd say I am doing pretty well :).
I am also getting stronger. I push myself even more now that I teach. Every push-up in the shoulder track today was on my toes (YEAH ME!) when before I would slyly drop to my knees because I started to feel the smallest ounce of burn. Now, I push myself so I can push the people in class to a farther limit than they thought they could go. Bonding through pain I guess.
It's a whole new group of friends and support system too. I've always had people that I see at the gym every time, but now it's more than that. We all push each other and are there for one another. A little exercise-freak type of family :).
