Barrett is 2 months old!
Everyday I look at him and he looks older and bigger...and longer! This kid is going to be tall like his Daddy for sure. A lot of his outfits have to be retired not because they are too tight, but because they turn into capri pants on his skinny long legs. Barrett is still wearing 0-3 month size clothes and filling them out quite nicely :).
This month brought a lot of changes! He started smiling for the first time a day after his 1 month birthday and hasn't stopped since. He is so smiley now, has little coo's, and is such a happy baby. He really only fusses if he's hungry, needs to burp, wants to fall asleep, or sometimes he just wants to be held...he's got his momma wrapped around his finger. His favorite thing to look at is your face. I've even caught him in the middle of crying and I'll get up in his face and he can't help but smile, and then he continues crying. He loves when you roll your tongue and make noises with it, he's even starting to move is tongue around like he's trying to mimic! He also loves when I make weird noises..."ah-ooo" is one of his favs. Oh and kisses-he gets lots of kisses! He has also started reaching for your face when you're talking to him, it's the cutest thing ever. Last week was the first time I got him to engage with an object other than our faces. I was having him track his little Hungry Caterpillar rattle and he followed it, smiled at it, and even reached and grasped it! The last week or so he has started to look at Jax too.
Barrett also rolled over for the first time! He was 5 weeks old! I had him doing tummy time and he was looking at himself in his play mirror and had his head lifted up way high and next thing I knew he just gracefully rolled right over onto his back. I couldn't help but scream! He continued to just lay there all chill on his back! I decided he was too little to do it and I was going to call it a fluke unless he rolled again soon after. And sure enough the next week he did. And now sometimes he will roll multiple times in a tummy-time session! I keep putting him back on his belly and he will slowly roll over soon after. I was able to catch the second time he did it on video and I'm so glad I have that!
Barrett is getting more tolerant of tummy time. He does better if I'm sitting there with him...spoiled kid. It just depends on the day and his mood. He has also started liking his playmat a little more. He doesn't really stay entertained for very long, but I'll take what I can get. He has started reaching for his toys and our faces.
Barrett has been a pretty great sleeper for us. He is now doing a 6-7 hour stretch first thing after bedtime and then another 3-4 hour stretch. He usually eats around 9-930 pm, falls asleep by 10-11 pm at the latest, gets up to eat around 4 am, and then usually wants to wake up between 730-8 am. It depends on the day whether he wants to take good naps or not. Some days he does great and takes a morning nap and then another good nap or two throughout the day, but other days he is my cat-napper and only does 15-30 min naps. We don't get a whole lot done on those days.
Barrett had his 6 week growth spurt and was a complete bear for 24 hours. Wanting to nurse constantly, acting ravenous even after he was done, and barely sleeping. No naps longer than 20 minutes during the day, had such a hard time falling asleep at night, and he woke up way more often during the night than normal. That was a tough day around here. But then by the next morning he was back to his old self, thank goodness.
We've done a couple road trips and he's done fairly well! He's usually a fan of his car seat and rides in the car. His most favorite thing ever (which in turn is my favorite thing ever) is our ergo carrier. We use it most every single day. If not for a walk, then for his fussy moments when nothing else works and he just wants to be held. It's helpful in the evenings when he can be his fussiest. I actually can get stuff done because both of my hands are free-dinner, laundry, clean kitchen, etc. If he's fighting a nap, I will usually pop him in the ergo and he's usually asleep within minutes. Favorite ever. Barrett also loves sucking on his fingers. Any finger, he doesn't discriminate. He also loves when we sing to him. The go-to is "you are my sunshine". The rocking/bouncing/you are my sunshine combo is the nighttime routine. We love when he wakes up from a nap or at night and stretches. It's the best. I can barely get his swaddle sack undone before his arms are reaching up to the sky.
