Tacos and Phase 10

This weekend we had some friends over for tacos and some Phase 10!  Lauren and I ran errands during the day and got all the fixings for our taco feast.  Matt took over the cooking while I made a delicious funfetti cake. Yum!  We had so much fun and a had a lot of laughs :).

Josh and Michelle joined us after dinner!

Missing Turbo

I have really been missing my old gym back in Lafayette. Ok, so I guess I don't really miss the gym itself, I miss the instructors and my favorite classes.  I am soooo excited because tomorrow I am going to my old gym for a TurboKick class! I had been doing TurboKick for 7 years before moving from Lafayette.  It was my thing.

I started doing CoreBox (another kickboxing class) when the gym tried to make the switch and I absolutely loved that too.  I am actually certified to teach Corebox after a training I had last January, but I just have not taught it yet.  I wanted to teach at International, but I felt like it would be weird being an instructor for people I had been working out with for years.  I told myself once I moved down here and joined a new gym, I would teach CoreBox.  Have I started teaching? Nope. But I know I totally should.

Tuesday's Exciting Facts

*First and foremost, our friends (The Hills) found out today they are having a baby GIRL! We are so beyond excited for them.  They were pretty much 99.9% sure "it" was a boy since Matt is 1 of 5 boys and his brothers all have boys.  Needless to say, they are on cloud 9 :)

*I bought a bag of real Cheetos at Marsh today...not the baked version...and they are delicious.

*More applications are becoming available for Matt's career journey...not giving too much info now, but just hoping for the best :).

*Jax is finally starting to realize when I "mean business" around here.  Lately, I have noticed he doesn't really listen to me or get scared of me when I scold him, but when Matt does he is full attention.  Matt's response to this was, "He just loves you too much to be scared of you."  Hmm thanks?

*Lauren and I got to do Bodypump together tonight! It's so much better with someone else there with you :).

Nickname

I never really had a cool nickname growing up.  My name isn't one that transfers into anything cool. I think I always secretly wanted one, but it's kind of weird to make up a nickname for yourself and then ask people to call you it, right?

Well, I just realized that I have a nickname now that I am married.  Even though only one person calls me this, and I only hear it at work, I can officially say I have a nickname...

"Dunny"

Thanks Brookie :)

Double Date Night

Last night, the Hills came down to our place to have a double date night! We had reservations at Buca di Beppo (YUM!) and then came home to watch the Purdue game.  Buca was delicious.  It's a family-style italian restaurant and we pigged out.  We topped off our huge meal with the Chocolate Brownie dessert...which is supposed to feed 6 people.  Does baby Hill count as 1 person? Because we finished it all but 2 bites :).

San Diego!

I am SO excited.  I just booked my flight to San Diego!

My friend Amy and I are going out to see Abby! Abby and I met sophomore year at Purdue and then we all started hanging out Junior year when we had our MedSurg clinical together...fun times :).  Abby moved out to San Diego last July for the Navy.  She is a nurse at the Naval Medical Center San Diego in same day surgery.

When Abby moved out there, I was a little depressed because California is just so far away.  It's not like I could pack up and drive to see her (I mean I could, but that'd be a darn long drive).  I wasn't sure if and when I'd be able to get out to see her, especially since we just had the expense of our wedding.

Amy had been planning on going out there for her Spring Break, but I had said I couldn't go.  I got to thinking that if I didn't go now, when would I go? It's so easy to want to go so bad, but to just put it off. Soooo, I saved and now I am going :). My flights are booked!  I think Matt is a little sad he can't join for the trip, but the next trip to see Abby we will both go out there.

At my wedding. Kylie, Abby, me, Amy.  Kylie won't be able to join us this trip :(

Last dinner before everyone moved away

Daytona Beach SB 10- I can't believe I went on SB with Lady Gaga

If this is anything like our trip to Daytona Beach last March, I think I am in store for a good time :). Can't wait to see you!!!!

Milestones

* I made dinner three times last week, and twice already this week! I think it has a little to do with Matt not being home for dinner during the week, so I feel like he should have a good meal to come and warm up when he gets home late. Yeah me! (If you don't know me, this is a milestone because my husband is the chef)

* Jax did "play dead" from the sitting position! (My text to Matt today was, "I just got Jax to do play dead from sitting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"...notice all those exclamation marks?!) Jax can do a nice little set of tricks that are super cute, but Matt has been getting on me to not do them all in order because he has started to anticipate what he should do next.  He would ONLY do "play dead" if he was already laying down first.  He was so confused when I would say it when he was sitting.  Welp, now he's got the hang of it! Good boy!

*I got dressed and left the house on my day off twice this week! Not that I don't like to or am embarrassed to say I stay home all day in my pj's, that's the absolute best!

* I saved 41% at Marsh on groceries today.

* Matt and I have been married for 4 months today!

Well, that's about all and it's only Tuesday!

Monday Funday

Who knew a Monday could be so fantastic?! I had the day off since I worked this past weekend (CRAZY weekend with the babies ended with a great McAlister's night with my NICU girls).  My friend Ashley took the day off work and came down to spend the day with me! I am SO glad she did.  I was just telling my mom about how on my days off, I have been doing a whole lot of nothing.  I clean and do our errands, but not a lot of my friends have days off during the week like I do with my weirdo nurse schedule so it's hard see my friends like when we were at Purdue.

We started off the day by going to P.F Chang's for lunch (lettuce wraps YUM!) and made our way to Keystone Mall to do some shopping for baby Hill! Ashley is due with their first baby this coming June and I couldn't be happier for her and Matt! Her little baby bump is just too cute for words.  She doesn't find out until next week whether they are having a little boy or girl, so our baby shopping was limited to what we could find that didn't matter the gender.

Our shopping trip that started out all for baby Hill quickly turned into a big girl shopping day when we saw a "40% off your entire purchase" sign at all of the Gaps (Gap, GapBaby, GapMaternity, GapBody)!  Ash got some super cute mommy tops and I surprised myself by only getting one top at Gap.

We came home and made homemade pizza and she started her trek back up to Lafayette.  I am so happy she came down today :).

Tonight, I am catching up on my shows and having Jax rest on my lap to recuperate from his surgery.  He has really been doing well since the surgery.  He doesn't seem to be in any pain, but I still try and keep him calm.  It doesn't work too well...

On a sad note, I am thinking of and praying for a very special family in their loss they experienced today.  My heart aches for them and I pray for their healing.

blast from the past

I was going through some old pictures the other day and came across some old ones of Matt and I from when we first started dating.  I had to scan this one in because I didn't have a digital camera in 2004...or I just didn't know how to upload them on the computer.

This picture is my favorite one of us from back then for many reasons...

Our smiles are HUGE.  We are so happy.
Matt's hair is long and in my eye.  I don't necessarily like that it's long, but it's a memory I have of him from then.
 It's our first picture together.
His arm around me. I remember being SO excited that he put his arm around me :).

August 2004
A little background on the pic.  It was taken in Jacksonville ("Jax" for short, hence our dog's name) where we were on vacation together.  It's kind of random how it happened, but basically I wasn't going to go if Matt didn't, and when my mom said he was going, I was in!  I didn't tell him that though.  We had been talking for awhile, but Matt just wasn't my "type", he partied a little too much.

While on vacation, everyone kept making jokes and comments on how we liked each other.  Instead of hanging out with my mom and the girls, I would always want to go wherever the boys were going (Matt and the Layton boys).  This picture was from our last night in Jacksonville.

We came back from Florida knowing we wanted to be together and we've been inseparable ever since.

this time last year

This time last year, Matt and I were taking our engagements photos! The snow we are getting tonight reminds me of our shoot.  We had to reschedule a couple times with our photographer in order to get a perfect snow for our pictures.

We got engaged in November, so it was either do a Winter session (which our photographers had never done and were SO pumped about) or wait until the Spring.  We decided to do the Winter session and I am so so so glad we did.  The day we did the session it was about 20 degrees and we had a solid 4-6 inches of snow on the ground.  I am so in love with our engagement pictures.  That day was just so fun.  I remember at one point Matt and I hugging to stay warm and forgetting we were even taking pictures.  Here are a few of our snow shots...

LOVE the red house in the background

The creek at Happy Hollow Park was FROZEN over.  Whose idea was it to walk out on it and take pictures?!

My fav...he's such a beast :)

so fun!

dreaded 6 months

I have been dreading Jax turning 6 months. That is when Matt and I decided we were going to have him neutered.

Welp, today I called and scheduled his surgery.  I made the appointment as I pulled into the driveway and sat in the car teary-eyed after I got off the phone.  Really?! I can't believe I got so emotional about taking a dog to get a necessary surgery, but I can't help it.  It makes me nervous for him to have surgery.  And for his recovery.  Watch it be not bad at all, but I just love this dog too much.  I know we need to get him neutered, but a small part of me wants him to have a litter of puppies since he has the perfect Boston markings and his puppies would be so cute! No Jamie, not happening. I feel like this will be his face after surgery...

Why did you do this to me? :(

With how cold it has been lately, Jax's love for our heating registers has grown.  It has gotten to a point that he will immediately run upstairs to a register after coming inside.  This morning he spent a half hour in the bathroom sleeping on the register before I even realized he was gone. He passes out the minute he meets the heat. He loves when I have to get ready because that means he can sleep outside the shower on the register for an hour with me in the same room as him.
