barrett matthew: 2-3 weeks

week 2

2 weeks old! Time is already flying by. 

We were starting to figure Barrett out, what he wanted-which was basically to be changed, fed, or held.  He still poops every single feeding-we are going through diapers like crazy!  We are doing a little bit of tummy time and having fun watching him lift his head and how strong his little neck is!  He screamed at me the whole time one day and then was happy as a clam for at least 10 minutes the next day.  Progress.

We had a nice day this week and were able to get out for our first family walk!  Barrett loves his car seat (keep that up!) so he slept through the whole thing.  It was so nice to get out of the house and get fresh air.  We met our friends on Saturday so Amber and I could go to the breastfeeding support group and the boys went out for breakfast.  It was nice to have the little ones back together again!

He is a growing boy! At his 2 week appointment he had gained 13 oz in 9 days which officially put him back up to his birth weight! His doctor was very impressed.  She said we could start going off his cues for feeds and not worrying so much about waking him every 2-3 hrs if he didn't want to eat-especially at night.  He also grew 3/4 inches in length! I knew he looked bigger :).  Everything else checked out fine and we will go back at 1 month to get him checked out again.  We had lots of visitors who loved some snuggle time with Barrett!

week 3

Every day this kid looks bigger to me.  Longer and chubbier :).

Barrett's cord fell off and his circ was healed so that meant it was tub bath time! He actually loved it! Once we got him down into the water he just calmly looked around...or mean-mugged us :).  He has the absolute best post-bath fluffy hair.

Visitors!

Barrett is still eating like a champ.  I am so thankful that he has taken to breastfeeding so well.  Although it is absolutely exhausting (at least 1 hr total time for feeding with burps and multiple diaper changes-sometimes longer, being the sole person to be feeding him, being at his mercy no matter what I'm doing, cluster feeding at night every 1-2 hrs sometimes, all the pain and annoyances that come from it, etc), it has been the absolute best experience so far.  I love our time together. We are planning on trying a bottle with him this weekend to prepare him for me going back to work so Matt will finally get to feed him! Fingers crossed he does ok.

We have been doing pretty well in the sleep department. We can depend on him to do at least one 4 hour stretch at night, sometimes more than one, and sometimes even a 5.5 hour stretch! He usually will take another solid nap in the morning from about 8-11 and then he's ready to start the day! He has periods of wide awake-alert time during the day and I think that helps him sleep better at night.  It's fun to watch him just stare at me and make eye contact.  He loves running his fingers through my hair if its down.  He was super fussy last night, and I stood up with him and he calmed down once he started running his fingers through it. 

Barrett has been practicing his tummy time.  We try and do it at least once a day while he's awake, sometime more and sometimes we just don't get to it :).  It's so fun to watch him get neck control and strength and lift his head up and move it from side to side. It's so cute to watch him explore.  He has also found a new buddy-Mr. Giraffe. He plays music and Barrett loves for him to join him in the Rock and Play or during tummy time.  He has fallen asleep multiple times with his hand resting on the giraffe's belly...so cute.  Barrett loves his sound machine. We play it for him at night and that has helped tremendously.  He also loves the sound of the shower running and my blow dryer so luckily I can usually get a shower in daily :). We are about to grow out of newborn sized clothing  :(.  3 weeks is pretty good though! I thought he wouldn't be able to wear them at all.  He still fits in a couple long sleeve onesies and pants, but that's about it and the end time is drawing near for those.  

tummy time is exhausting!

We did a family trip to Costco over the weekend and he slept the whole time in his carseat. Such a good boy! One night last week, I left him with my mom so I could run a couple errands.  It was nice to be free and I know she was in heaven, but I missed him for the little bit I was gone!
