beach weekend!

It took us all Summer to be able to get everyone together the same weekend (although we were still missing a couple people!) up in Michigan City for a family and beach weekend!  The weather didn't cooperate too well, but it was good enough for lots of fun, funny family time, and a beach trip on Sunday.  Matt and I drove up Friday thinking it'd be a great plan to go during Barrett's bedtime and maybe then he'd sleep the whole way and be easier to transfer to sleep when we got there.  I should know better...he didn't fall asleep until like 10:30, then woke up the minute we pulled in, and then couldn't get him to fall back asleep until like 2 am.  I guess we will know for next time.

On Saturday, we got up and did some playing while we waited for everyone to arrive.  It rained all day, so the screened in porch was a great substitute for Barrett who wanted to go outside.  He loved watching the trains go by and we even saw a family of deer in the backyard!  We had a big family dinner and then got all cleaned up and made our way to watch Tre's basketball game.  He had his own little cheer section :).  It was so great to watch him play.  After we got home and put the babe to bed, we all stayed up late playing a hilarious game of Heads Up.  I hadn't laughed that hard in a long time!

On Sunday, we had a slow start and an awesome pancake breakfast.  Once it warmed up a bit, we got all packed up and headed down for a beach day!  The sun peeked out once we were down there, but the water was still pretty cold.  It was so funny to see Barrett react to the beach.  When we took him last Summer, he was only 3 months old so this really was his first time going when he knew what was going on. Matt carried him down to where everyone had set up camp.  He went to set him down in the sand and it didn't go too well.  Barrett was pretty freaked out with the sand.  He didn't want to stand up in it and it took quite a bit of coaxing (and distraction) to get him to walk around.  He did love throwing rocks into the water and putting water into buckets with Dad. Dad ended up taking him into the cool water.  I think Barrett was pretty neutral on it until he got dunked under water with Dad. Then it was full on, "Get me out of this water!" :).  Overall, a fun day at the beach!

Until next year!
