a day in the life

I got this idea from my friend Jamie-photo journaling an entire day spent with my favorite little guy.  I figured what better time to document our day as Barrett is about to be a half of a year old!  I am so thankful for every single day I get to spend with him.  It makes me wonder what I used to do with my days before he was here.  I get so excited in the mornings to pick him up out of bed and know that I get to have a little buddy with me all day long (unless it's on a day I'm working and then that just stinks :) we have to soak up as much cuddle time as possible once I'm home ).

Good Morning!
Barrett usually wakes up between 6 and 7 am, eats, and is ready to start his day.

Story Time
Current favs include "Goodnight Moon" (absolute fav), "The Very Hungry Caterpillar", and "Brown Bear, Brown Bear"

Playtime
Barrett plays in his room while I let the dog out/feed him, make breakfast, get ready for the gym (if it's a day I'm teaching/going), and then I usually join him.

Nap #1
By the time I'm ready to leave, Barrett is ready for his first nap.  I snuggle him in bed with Dad :)

Time with Dad
Barrett is either still sleeping when I get home or playing with Dad before he goes to work.  This little boy absolutely adores his dad.  We are on the same page with that :)

Lunchtime

Playtime
Barrett likes to roll around (all over the place!), play on his belly, play with all his toys, try to scoot to things (and he gets there!), watch Jax, or be in his bouncer.

(he usually gets into at least a half dozen things he shouldn't be playing with during playtime)

Errands
Costco run for a new steam-mop.  Barrett approves.

Nap #2
Usually if he takes a long nap in the morning for Dad, the rest of the naps are short but sweet.  Otherwise, this is usually a good nap!

Wake up happy!

Fill the belly again...

Playtime

Nap #3

Rise and Shine!

Walk!
Barrett usually doesn't sleep very long for that nap, so we go for a walk before dinner time.

Dinner then more playing-

Barrett goes in his highchair to play so I can finish up making dinner.  All the while staring at me like "Why can't I have a bite of that pork tenderloin?"

Bath

Feet in the mouth pretty much the whole time.
Lotion, PJ's, bedtime feeding, asleep by 9:15 pm

So thankful for this life :)

pool day

Having Barrett around is so fun.  Everything is new to him and we get to have so many "firsts"! We had another first last week-Barrett's first trip to the pool! The kid loves bath time so I assumed he would love the pool.  I headed over to my friend Amber's house so we could get the boys ready to go.

We got the boys fed and all lathered in sunscreen and dressed in swimsuits, swim shirts, and hats and headed out the door about 1.5 hours after we had planned :).  We put the boys in the strollers and walked to the pool.  They were both conked out within the first 3 minutes of the walk and then continued to sleep for another 30 minutes once we got to the pool.  We should've just sat and enjoyed laying in the sun, but we were so excited to get them in the pool that we basically just hung out and stared at them util they woke up, haha.

Barrett woke up first so we made our way to the pool!  The water was pretty chilly so I thought maybe he wouldn't be a fan.  He had a pretty cautious look on his face the entire time until I started lifting him up in the air over and over and then the smiles came.  He didn't fuss and seemed to actually enjoy it!  Nolan woke up shortly after that so they joined us as well.

It rained on us the whole walk home.  Quite the event :)

corn dog, lemon shake-up, & funnel cake

I love the State Fair.  We have gone every year since we've lived here (except for last year...Matt claimed the "we will go to the State Fair when we have kids" just like "we will hang Christmas lights on the outside of the house when we have kids" but guess who has a kid this year?! :) ).  My favs are the atmosphere, the music, the baby goats and baby pig litter, and my 3 fair staples-corn dog, lemon shake-up, and a funnel cake.   Although maybe it's 4-we rarely leave without a box of salt water taffy.

We were so excited to take Barrett to the fair this year!  I wasn't positive how he'd do.  It's usually super hot and steamy, but this has been a mild summer and the day we went it was low 80's and felt great!  He loves being outside so I knew he'd at least like that part.  We put him in the stroller at first and he was looking all around and loving it.  Then fell asleep by the time we even got in line for our corn dogs and lemon shake-ups.  He woke up shortly after we sat down to eat them and was enthralled with watching us eat them.  Then, we walked to the animal barns and I held Barrett as we walked through so he could see the animals better.   He was so into it.  He just looked all around and couldn't take his eyes off them.  We saw the baby pig litter (SO cute!), the cows, horses, and sheep, but we didn't make it to the goats/not sure if they were out yet since we went on day 2.

Barrett started getting sleepy while I held him so we laid the stroller down and turned his little fan on and he fell asleep almost immediately.  We walked back towards the covered bridge for the Celtic dancing show.  He woke up a couple songs in and then sat on our laps to watch with us.  Afterwards we stuck him in the carrier with Matt so he could look out and around.  He loves being in the carrier.  And I'm sure he extra loves being in the carrier with Dad because he gets a much better view!  We got our elephant ear (since I didn't see a funnel cake by where we were) and Matt got a sirloin tip sandwich and made our way to the free stage for the performance from two of the actors from Nashville!  It was a little too loud for B so we camped out back in the grass so we could listen but we couldn't see very well.

We made it home by bedtime and Barrett slept like a rock that night.  We wore him out! It was such a perfect day with my two boys.  I'd say Barrett's first State Fair experience was a success :)
