month one

A whole month with this sweet, squishy, cuddly, kissable babe! I know everyone says this, but here are two things I have found all too true since Bodey has been here. It really IS possible to love another child (I really was worried that I could ever love another child like I love Barrett, and also afraid that another baby would take love from B).  So. Not. True. The love somehow explodes and your heart doubles in size. It's incredible.  Also, he's only been with us a month but it truly feels like he's been here all along and we've never been without him.  He fits right in and we all love him SO very much.

Bodey is a little dreamboat. Bear might have been this exact same baby and I'm just saying Bodey is a dreamboat because it's easier second time around? Or maybe he truly is just as dreamy as he seems haha.  He rarely cries, only fusses when hungry, tired, or needs a diaper change. Pretty valid reasons I'd say, and all fixable.  He doesn't really do the "witching hour" like Bear did where he fussed all evening long.  Bodey is definitely wide awake from about 8:30 pm-10 pm every night and needs his paci, but he's not inconsolable by any means.

He's actually already a pretty good sleeper and shockingly understood the whole day and night thing right from the start (or maybe it was week 2...either way, super quickly!). He did celebrate week 1 with a 4.5 hr and a 5 hr feeding stretch at night! He usually eats around 8 or 9 pm, stays awake and hangs out with Mom and Dad (I think he does this because it's the only time of the day that he gets us to himself! lol), and then snoozes for a bit before eating at 11/11:30 pm and then conking out for the night.  He has actually done this since the very first week we were home! He'll eat that feed and then sleep until sometime between 3 am and 4 am! (a couple
times he's made it to 5 am! but he probably eats closer to midnight those times)  He goes back to sleep after that, wakes to eat between 7 and 8 am, and then goes back to sleep until about 10 am! He is a great nurser and loves to eat, just like his big bro!

I got a smile out of him for the first time on his 4 week bday, and I think he is wanting to start cooing really soon!  He dislikes diaper changes.  He LOVES looking around and staring at people's faces and bath time/getting his hair washed.  Also loves being held and being in the carrier-any and all of them.

Happy 1 Month, baby Bodey!

he's here!

We were scheduled for our repeat c-section on Thursday, March 9th.  Matt's mom came to the house Wednesday night so she would be here when B woke up since we had to leave the house at 4:45 am the next morning to get to Indy by 6 am.  We went to bed at a decent time and I actually did get a couple hours of sleep! I got up at 3:30 am to shower and finish packing last minute things.  Baby boy was moving and grooving and hiccuping in my belly all the while, I wondered if he knew today was his day to come out!

We hopped in the car, Dad stopped for some breakfast and coffee, and we made our way down to the hospital.  We made a pit stop at Einstein bagels for the nurses :). We arrived and got all registered and checked in and then made our way up to our triage pre-op room.  They had me change into my gown and cool socks, got my IV in right away, drew some blood, and we hung out in the room.  Amber was at work that day and came down to hang with us too! The anesthesiologist came in (it was Dr. H who also did anesthesia for our last delivery and he was SO amazing, I actually called to request him earlier that week).  He got us all prepped and ready and even asked our favorite music and had DMB on blast in the OR :).  My OB came in and checked out baby and said we were ready to rock and roll!  Matt got all dressed, we hugged Amber, and I got up and walked into the OR with my nurse.

It is a very strange feeling to walk yourself into an OR knowing you are about to go through surgery and also have a baby! I sat on the edge of the bed and anesthesia got right to work on my spinal.  They helped me lay back and got all my stuff on for surgery, scrubbed my belly, and put the drape on. I had asked if they could use a clear drape so we could see them pulling him out and they did! DMB was playing and I was feeling more at ease.  My legs get tingly, but not numb and heavy.  NICU team walked in and we said hi to Ashley (who also came on B's delivery!), Brenda, and Caroline also came in to take some awesome pictures too!  Matt walked in and got ready to sit down. My doctor had everything set to go and did the "pinch test" they do before they cut.  Shockingly, I could feel her pinching me.  I told them I could and they asked "do you feel pressure or pain?" I said "I can feel you pinching me really hard." They were all stunned that my spinal had not set up yet and after some debating, they decided they would need to do a whole new one.  Lucky me!  They had everyone leave, took off all the drapes, and had me roll to my side to do another spinal.  That one worked immediately and my whole lower body was numb and I couldn't move anything.  Everyone came back in, they rescrubbed me, redraped me, and got to work!

As they got close to the baby, I lifted my head to watch them pull him out.  First thing I saw was a squishy face and some dark hair! Not at much as B, but still hair! They showed him to us and whisked him to the warmer to get checked out.  He was perfect and healthy and got wrapped up and handed to Matt. We just stared at him in awe. We thanked the NICU team and the labor room finished getting his measurements.

We welcomed Bodey Frank Dunn at 8:42 am on Thursday, March 9th 2017. He weighed 8 lbs 5 oz and was 20.5 in long! 7 oz less and a whole inch shorter than his big bro!  His first name is a name we just loved, and his middle name is honoring Matt's dad (Daniel Frank).

We snuggled with him as they got me all good to go. We were wheeled into PACU for 2 hours where I fed him and held him. We updated our parents he was here, but I wasn't feeling very good after surgery so we didn't too much updating others until later that evening.

Amber came to visit again once we were moved to the suite and then our moms and B came to visit! Seeing them meet for the first time-I will never forget that.  Bear is absolutely head over heels for his baby brother and just kept kissing and hugging him and wanting to hold him. It was truly the sweetest thing I've ever seen.  We spent some time all together and since I wasn't feeling great I closed my eyes for a bit.  That evening I ordered some lemon ice and actually felt like a whole new person! I actually got out of bed to walk to the bathroom that evening.

We had lots of visitors come through-Grandma, Granny, Bear, Papa, Amber & Rob & fam, Ashley H, all of my work friends that I failed to get pictures of everyone (I even walked down to NICU Saturday!), Samantha and Porter, and Chandra.  We enjoyed getting to spend some quiet one on one time with the baby since life would be hectic once we got home.  Daddy is on cloud nine and is so in love with baby Bodey, he gave ample kisses and snuggles :).  He was such a good baby in the hospital and is a great eater too. He got down to 7 lb 11 oz, but had gained 2.5 oz by the time of our doctor appt 2 days after going home!

Overall, I feel as if I am recovering much better this time around. A week in and I feel pretty good!  We enjoyed this week as a family 4 with Daddy taking some time off work.  Bear went to school 3 days this week which allowed for lots of Bodey snuggle time.  We are all SO in love with this little man and couldn't be more blessed with the two boys we were given.
