little fishy

We have a little water baby on our hands.
We started B in swimming lessons! I have been wanting to get him in them for awhile now and his Papa got him a couple months of lessons for his 1st birthday so got him enrolled. I think it's especially important for him to be aware of pools since our sitter has an in-ground pool.  I grew up swimming and was also on the swim team so that made me even more excited to get him started.

He goes once a week, but the place we take him also has free family swim times in the afternoons and on Friday nights so we will hopefully get lots of use out of it.  His first lesson went well! He was super excited to get in at first, but once we got in he turned around and wrapped his arms and legs around me and laid his head down.  We practiced kicking his legs, pulling his arms, going back and forth between the sides of the pool, swim/chasing balls around, pouring water over his head, dunking him, gliding him between the instructor and I, and getting in and out of the pool.  He didn't really mind the water on his head or being dunked, he was still just kind of in his shock the whole time, but tried it all. By the end, he was starting to pull his arms!  I am so excited to see how he progresses.

I'm so excited we have a little fishy in the family :)

catch-up

Life is just so fun.  We've been keeping busy with family, friends, work, house projects, and The Bear :).  He is so smart and blows us away everyday.  One day you teach him what a cow says, and the next he says "moo!" when you ask him.  It's wild.  He knows things we don't even know he does! He has boundless energy and keeps us on our toes, but our lives have never felt so full and fun.

See that hair? Barrett got his first big chop in April...

It's so much easier to deal with and we even brought back his little faux hawk :).  He's had another haircut since then.  The kid's hair grows so fast!

We are LOVING this nicer weather! It means ditching the coats and hats and getting outside! B loves being outside. In fact, if he's not outside long enough (according to him), he will cry when you take him back in.  He will also bring us our shoes and walk to the door to try and get outside.  He has also tried waving "bye bye" to convince us outside is a great idea.  We got a trailer to put on our bike and we can take family bike rides with Barrett in the trailer.  He really likes it!

He truly is the very happiest when he has wide open spaces to roam and our backyard is his oasis.

He loves playing with balls, pushing his mower around, eating playing with rocks, climbing up his slide, and most of all-his water table.  He LOVES that water table. Splashes his hands around, plays with toys in the water, and also hydrates himself with constantly drinking the water.  "Barrett, please stop drinking the water...play in it!"

Barrett is saying SO many words! He is a little copycat and tries to say whatever you say.  Latest words he has added:  shoes, night-night, trash (weird, I know), banana (nana), Nolan ("yeah-yuh"),  Elmo (MO!), and cat.  If he sees a ball, he will shout "BA!" so loudly no matter where we are.  He also can tell you what a cow, cat, dog, horse, and sheep say.  It's pretty much the cutest thing ever.  I love how he says "nnnaaayyyyy!"  He also points out and says the names of which animals are in his book and lets me know what the say :).  He says "mama" and "dada" allll the time and knows the quickest way out of his crib is sweetly saying "mama" :).  He calls us by those names to get our attention and can point us out in pictures (also points out his beloved "Jees" (Jax) in our family picture :) ). Also signs "please" and " thank you" now too.

He sniffs just about every flower he sees, wants to point out and touch every tree on our walks, and makes sure I know there is a dog barking at us.  He is running and definitely knows what he wants and the quickest way to get there.  He has an opinion and has even given us a preview of the toddler tantrums that are to come.  Fortunately, he listens fairly well to when we say "no" to something and will shake his head "no" and smirk a little if he goes to do something he's not supposed to.  He is still such a lover and we love his hugs and kisses so much.  Blowing kisses goes along with his waving "bye bye" :).  Barrett is obsessed with the Maroon 5 song "Sugar".  I have no idea why, unless he correlates it to one time Matt and I were singing it loudly and dancing in the car haha.  He could be screaming and crying and so mad and I will put that song on and he calms immediately.  The kid also loves sunglasses.  He wants them on and does not want them taken off.

I am so excited for this summer! Lots of outside fun and in turn, good naps :).

date weekend

Matt and I got away for the weekend and spent our first night away from the babe.  I was so nervous and backed out in my head a couple different times that I tried to put something together, but I finally made myself do it knowing that if we didn't leave him for just one night now, it would just keep getting harder to do it.  He was in good hands and did great the whole weekend.  My husband is my very best friend and favorite person to be with. It was so nice to relax with each other and not worry about a thing.

We started the day with sleeping in a little (well, Matt did. I went to the gym for a quick class) and then made our way to a sushi lunch.  We haven't gone out for sushi in what seems like forever and it was delicious!

After lunch, we drove around a little and enjoyed the sunshine and quiet :).  We stopped at Paradise Bakery and got some coffee and cookies before the Lady Antebellum concert.  We had seats in the pavilion which was nice since it rained a little.  The show was great!  We have already planned two other concerts for the summer (DMB being one of course :)).  I love that venue in the summer.

We slept in the next day (glorious!) and then had an awesome breakfast at a family restaurant in town.  We stuffed ourselves to the max and then made our way home.  We couldn't wait to see our little man and were greeted with excited "Dada!" and "Mama!" and some good hugs.   Such a great weekend!
